Volksrust

This Town is near the Land where the Battle of Majuba was fought, where the Transvaal won independence from the British. It was decided suitable for a new Town to be founded on the Mpumalanga / KwaZulu Natal border. 

Daggakraal

Daggakraal, is a town in Gert Sibande District Municipality near Volksrust in the outskirts of Mpumalanga province, South Africa.

 

Amersfoort

The town was established in 1888 Lying at 1,664 m above sea level in the upper reaches of the Vaal River basin on the banks of the Schulpspruit. The bridge over the Vaal River was built in 1896 and is a national monument. 

Perdekop

The small town of Perdekop, meaning ‘horse hill’ in Afrikaans, is 1889 metres above sea level and owes its name to an environmental oddity that occurred in the days when horse sickness prevailed. 

Wakkerstroom

Wakkerstroom (Awake Stream) is the second oldest town in Mpumalanga province, South Africa. The town is on the KwaZulu-Natal border, 27 km east of Volksrust and 56 km south-east of Amersfoort.

Brief History of the Leadership

The inaugural meeting of the new council saw the appointment of the town's new Mayor Cllr BJ Mhlanga.
